In questi giorni mi capita spesso.
This is not America.
There are times when certain songs come back to mind almost spontaneously, because they seem to capture, better than so many analyses, what is happening around us.
Lately, I have found myself returning to a few of them. One in particular is “This Is Not America”, by David Bowie and Pat Metheny, from 1985.
A song born in the atmosphere of the Cold War, but one that today seems to carry a different, perhaps even more bitter meaning.
Not so much a song against America, but rather about the distance between the America we once knew, or imagined, and the one we see today.
This is not America. Or perhaps the real question is what America actually is today.
